Golf Hooligans
61"Get in the Hole"
You're watching golf on TV, or you're at a golf tournament following your favorite golfers. It could be the US Open, the Masters, the British Open, you name the tournament.
The golfer steps up to the tee. It's quiet, the birds are chirping, and the wind is rustling throught the trees. He pulls his driver from his bag. It's a 528 yard par 5 hole, with a dogleg left. The golfer steps up to the ball, sets, and swings. And just as you hear the metal driver ping, some hooligan screams ..."GET IN THE HOLE"
I often wonder why it is in golf that one needs silence to his a stationary ball sitting on a tee, yet a baseball player must contend with a 90+ mph fastball, or worse, a wicked slider, with 50,000 screaming fans in the background.
It might be interesting to see each sport with a little role reversal. Screaming fans on the golf course, and golf silence and etiquette on the baseball diamond. Well, maybe not too interesting, but just a thought.
Of course, when some drunk looking for his 15 minutes of fame runs onto the football field, everyone is hoping some linebacker clotheslines the knucklehead. And then there are the infamous "soccer hooligans." But in golf, no matter how far from the cup, 5 feet or 500 yards, someone can be heard screaming, "get in the hole."
I will, however, make a prediction. Vuvuzela blowing fans will begin showing up at every sporting event from golf to baseball, from basketball and hockey to football.
